Straight Talk - Decision Making and
The Will of God

Decision Making and The Will of God

This week Troy explored the theme of decision making and the will of God - and he began by asking one simple question - does God have a plan for my life?

  1. What do you think does he have a plan for your life? Share how it is that you came to discern that plan. How would you describe the unfolding of that plan? Was it like a blue print being laid out before you? Was it like a slow walk where he has slowly directed and guided you? Has it been like a series of open doors opening and closing that you have either walked through or bumped up against?
  2. Genesis 4:26 says "At that time people began to call on the name of the Lord." This passage gives us guidance as to how to begin to make decisions as people of the Old Testament didn't call on their best thoughts, neighbours thinking or the stars but on God. Share an experience where you have called on the name of the Lord to help you your decision making - what was the decision, what did you do and how did it turn out?
  3. Troy talked about God's general will, his specific will and an alignment of wills - how do you understand these three different aspects? How would you define his general will? How do you define his specific will? How would you describe this alignment of wills?
  4. How have you in the past or do you now see God using your decision making to be a voice of kindness, to be a voice of reason and to be a voice of justice and to help others.
  5. When it comes to more specific direction for your own life - how do you make those types of decisions? How do you know what God wants you to do? do you rely on open and closed doors, feelings, facts and or fleeces? Share with the group some of your experiences with relations to how you have made various decisions in your life.
  6. How do you ensure your decisions are in alignment with Gods will? Where does it begin for you? Are there any keys you have used to ensure the decisions you are making are aligned with Gods will?
  7. What are the things that have broken your heart or break your heart - is there anything in those feelings that help you make decisions?
