Father's Day Reflections
GOOD GOOD FATHER – September 3
Read Luke 15:11-24
What emotions rise up in you as you read this story?
On Sunday morning (Father’s Day) Josh, Matt, Peter, Phil and Steve shared an aspect of the character of God that had become clearer to them through their experience as human fathers.
They shared about:
- A God who so much more than just ‘tolerates’ his children but loves with a perfect father’s love.
- A God who runs to his children because he cares and loves them passionately. Luke 15:20
- A God who, like a father, holds on (nurtures and protects) and lets go (to do the work of Jesus as we love God and neighbour) Mark 12:23
- A God who feels our pain, shares our griefs and bottles our tears. Psalm 56:8
- A God who is always there to help, who won't let you slip – who doesn’t slumber or sleep. Psalm 121
Which do you resonate with the most? Why?
If you are a parent, how has the character of God become clearer to you through the experience of raising children?
Close by praying together. Maybe each member of your group could give thanks to God for his Fatherly love, expressing an aspect of that love that is precious to them.
